Full list of candidates standing in the Holme Valley South by-election
With a vacant seat in the Holme Valley South ward, candidates from across the political spectrum are hoping to secure the local vote in the upcoming by-election.
After Paul Davies resigned from Kirklees Council to focus on his new role as MP for Colne Valley, a by-election was scheduled for Thursday, October 17, so residents can elect a new councillor to represent their area.
Currently, the two Holme Valley South seats are held by Labour members, one of whom being Councillor Moses Crook, the Cabinet Member for Transport and Housing.

Councillor Jane Rylah took the other seat at May's local elections. This had previously been held by former Conservative councillor, Donald Firth who had served on the council for more than 30 years.
Though Labour successfully poached a formerly blue seat, the win wasn’t too comfortable, with just four per cent separating the votes for Cllr Rylah and Tory candidate, Damian Brook, who is standing in the upcoming election.
The full list of candidates is as follows:
Damian Craig Brook - Conservative Party
Howard Cohen - Liberal Democrats
Toby Michael Cooper - Green Party
Miri Finch - Independent
Susan Laird - Reform UK
Philip Anthony Lucitt - Labour Party
Those heading to the polling stations are reminded to bring an official form of photo ID.
