People across the UK are being offered new cost of living payments from local authorities after the Department for Work and Pensions ploughed an extra £421 million into the Household Support Fund. This cash is given out by councils rather than by the DWP itself and includes a number of different payments across the region.

Among them, Birmingham City Council will give £200 payments to eligible households on specific means-tested benefits including Council Tax Support, Housing Benefit, Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit, Social Funds (Cold Weather Payment, Sure Start, Maternity Grant), Tax Credits (Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit), Universal Credit, Free School Meals Vouchers and Healthy Start Vouchers. In some cases, the payments are automatic, while others require an application.

Before these new cost of living payments were made from the fifth round of cash added to the Household Support Fund, a series of direct cash sums came from the DWP itself in the financial years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. We've listed them all below. If you didn't receive one or more of those payments but believe you were eligible, you can report it missing at the GOV.UK webpage and the DWP will look into it.
