Almost 50 Homebase stores are reported to be at risk of closure, despite a rescue deal from billionaire Chris Dawson. The Times said on Tuesday that all 130 branches of the DIY and garden retailer could have closed, with the chain expected to appoint administrators.

However, retail mogul Chris Dawson rescued Homebase, saving more than a thousand jobs. Mr Dawson’s company CDS Superstores, owner of The Range and Wilko, has acquired the Homebase brand name, intellectual property, and up to 70 of its UK stores.

The stores will continue to trade under the Homebase banner but will eventually be turned into The Range stores. The Homebase brand will continue online though. But around 2,000 workers and some 49 stores remain at risk, according to Mail Online.
