Full list of Lloyds and Halifax banks closing - with North Wales branches targeted
Two North Wales banks will close as part of the shutdown of nearly 140 branches. Lloyds has announced the closure of an additional 136 high street branches as it moves forward with cost-cutting strategies and more digital banking.
This will see the closure of 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland locations btween May this year and March 2026. These changes follow shortly after Lloyds restructured its branch operations, allowing for customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland to conduct their in-person banking across any of the group's brand locations.
The company said that all employees from the closing branches would be offered alternative roles within the firm. Once the closures are complete, the number of Lloyds branches will reduce to 386, Halifax to 281, and the Bank of Scotland to 90.

The closures include two sites in North Wales, with the Halifax branches in Mold and Rhyl shutting.
A shifting trend among customers who favour online and mobile banking services over traditional in-person transactions was cited as the primary reason for the closures by Lloyds. According to the bank, these branches have seen transactions dwindle by approximately 48% over the last five years as more customers opt for the convenience of the app for payments. Six of the branches set to close are in Wales.
A spokeswoman for Lloyds commented on the developments: "Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking."
She further pointed out the range of alternatives available to customers: "Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches. Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub."
