Movie theatres across London are slashing their prices in honour of National Cinema Day this Saturday (August 31). Film fans will be able to catch a flick for as little as £4 for one day and one day only.

Chains such as Cineworld and Vue are taking part, as well as a long list of independents across the capital. They will be showing a mix of recently released films, low-budget gems, and much-loved classics.

Launched in 2022, National Cinema Day is a celebration of the buzz created by going to the cinema. The inaugural event saw 1.46m tickets purchased- three times the average daily attendance- while last year's event brought in £5.2m to the box office.

It will hopefully be a much-needed boost for London's cinema scene following a summer of closures. In the last few months, Picturehouse has shuttered its Fulham Road, Stratford East, and Bromley branches, whilst Odeon closed its Covent Garden and Surrey Quays cinemas.

Iain Jacob, chair of organiser Cinema First said: "National Cinema Day is fast becoming a Great British cultural event, sharing the joy and sociability of cinema across the nation.

"This year we have more support than ever, allowing us to show a fantastically wide choice of films at amazing value. Every year this event has got bigger, with more and more people sharing their love of cinema. We know that 2024 will be the best yet."
