Full list of roads closed on Monday due to flooding in Gloucestershire

As rain continues to fall on Monday (September 23) a number of roads have been affected by flooding in Gloucestershire. The vast majority of roads are open, although surface water is causing some challenging driving conditions.

On Friday, the risk of flooded roads was clear when drivers were stranded on parts of the A40 near Charlton Kings. Images taken around the county also showed roads covered in flood water during the extreme weather.

Gloucestershire County Council's highways department has urged drivers to show caution when out and about on the roads. The Environment Agency has also advised motorists to take care on low-lying roads near rivers and water courses.

While roads affected by flooding have caused at least one school to close today, with others closed due to flood damage. Sherborne C of E Primary School in the Cotswolds said: "School is closed due to flooding of local roads and school unable to serve lunches."

Highways said: "Please note - after a flood, we need to inspect the road to make sure it is still safe to travel on. Road closures remain in place until this inspection is done, so please do not move signs.

"Even if the road looks clear or passable, it might not be safe. We need to check the surface, clear up any debris and grit if needed. Road closures are in place to keep you and your vehicle safe."
