An annual town fair that has taken place since 1221 will be returning next week - for the 803rd time. Loughborough Fair will be welcoming thousands of visitors to enjoy rides for all ages, as well as food, drink and games.

The historic fair, which is operated by Charnwood Borough Council, will take place from Wednesday, November 13, to Saturday, November 16. Rides returning this year will include Dodgems, Superbob, Bomber, Megaspin, Matterhorn, Atmos Fear, Miami and Starflyer.

The council said there will be rides that are suitable for every age group, with attractions available for toddlers all the way through to adults. A number of food, drink and confectionary stalls will be on offer along with games and quiz stalls which will give visitors the chance to win prizes.

The four-day event will be officially opened by the Mayor of Charnwood, Dr Julie Bradshaw MBE, at 5pm on the Wednesday – an hour earlier than usual. The opening invovles the reading of the "official proclamation" which will take place in Devonshire Square. The Mayor of Charnwood will also be presented with the official Loughborough Fair Bell at the opening of the event.

Jennifer Tillotson, the council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “We can’t wait to welcome all the fun of the fair back to Loughborough this month. It is always a memorable time of years as lots of families and residents visit the town centre to enjoy the rides and attractions as well as supporting our local businesses.”

Granby Street car park will be closed from the afternoon of Monday, November 11, due to the area being used for rides and attractions. The car parks at Ward's End and Bedford Square will also be closed from the afternoon of Tuesday, November 12.

The Beehive Lane multi-storey car park and Southfield Road car parks will still be available and open during the hours of the fair. The council's Southfield offices car park will also be open to the public outside of the council’s opening times.

The opening times for Loughborough Fair 2024 are:
