Future of curry house and former Little Chef restaurant off the A52 has been confirmed

Plans for a new Starbucks drive-thru on the site of an Indian restaurant can go ahead after planning permission was approved. Previous plans to turn the Mewar Haveli restaurant, on the A52 Radcliffe Road in Holme Pierrepont, near Radcliffe-on-Trent, into a Starbucks were previously withdrawn in September 2023 so highway issues could be resolved

Applicant Calder Investment Properties Ltd resubmitted the plans in June 2024, and they were accepted by Rushcliffe Borough Council last Friday (November 22). Changes include the car park being altered to include 19 spaces, along with a new collection kiosk, a substation and works to accommodate the drive-thru unit in the existing restaurant building.

Two disabled and five electric charging spaces are also included in the car park changes. The current Indian restaurant will operate until January 21, 2025, and will move to a takeaway and delivery service from Meadow Lane, Nottingham.

There are plans to open up a new Mewar Haveli sit-in restaurant in the future but a date and location are unknown.

Planning documents say pedestrian access is “currently lacking” with no dedicated footpath that connect the site and Radcliffe Road.

Developers say new pedestrian areas are included in the plans with a marked pedestrian crossing and new footpath. One resident comment and one representation from Pedals (Nottingham Cycling Campaign) raised concerns about highway safety and cyclist safety when using the cycle path opposite the site.

No objections relating to highway safety by National Highways and the County Council were made. The site sits within the Green Belt and was previously used by a Little Chef before it was renamed as Mewar Haveli in 2014.
