A former Wilko store in Grimsby may not be vacant for much longer.

The Wilko, formerly Wilkinson, chain collapsed last year, entering administration in August. More than 12,000 jobs were lost and hundreds of stores closed down, including two in Grimsby, in Freeman Street and Bull Ring Lane.

The retail chain has since had new ownership and re-launched online, and with a few physical stores, but the Grimsby locations have not reopened. Now, plans are being made to convert the former Freeman Street store.

It closed in September last year, but may get the go-ahead for its future use this September. A new premises licence application was made to North East Lincolnshire Council this month for a Euromarket store at the former Wilko.

The licence application seeks permission to be able to sell alcohol between 8am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 9pm on Sundays. The applicant is Saman Abdlohb.

He is the owner of Food Plus (Grimsby) Limited. His registered Companies House address is 72-74 Freeman Street, where a Euromarket that is part of a Polish grocery store chain already exists. No decision will be made on the licence application until after September 9, when the deadline for representations closes.
