Marvel star Jeremy Renner’s Paramount+ show Mayor of Kingstown has secured a second season. Renner plays former inmate Mike McLuskey who rises as an influential member of his powerful family.
He stars alongside Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) and Taylor Handley, who play his brothers Mitch and Kyle respectively, and Dianne Wiest (I Care A Lot), as their mother Miriam. Created by Yellowstone's Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, the show is Paramount+'s second most watched series ever. Coming second only to Yellowstone's prequel series 1883.
It secured the biggest premiere on Paramount+ to date since the service's rebranding from CBS All Access.
Tanya Giles, ViacomCBS Streaming chief programming officer, said: "With Mayor of Kingstown, Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon offer a nuanced portrayal of the United States' harsh prison system.
"The stellar crew and cast, including Jeremy Renner and Dianne Wiest, delivered a thought-provoking, intense drama that kept audiences captivated and yearning for more. We are thrilled to be the home of the expanding Taylor Sheridan Universe and we look forward to bringing fans back to Kingstown next season."
Renner uploaded the season two announcement to his Instagram earlier this week, captioned: "@paramountplus announces a SEASON 2 of @mayorofkingstown today!!! The Mayor is back… Are you ready?? What do you think?"
With the announcement, Dillon shared his own post, a compilation video of behind the scenes photos from filming and reflected on the first season.
"This show was a labour of love, with exceptional talented people in front and behind the camera," he captioned his post. "First and foremost thank you to my friend and co-creator Taylor Sheridan, and my partner in crime executive producer Michael Friedman, and to everyone, cast and crew."
Mayor of Kingstown airs on Paramount+ in the US.
