A popular ice cream parlour in Southwell looks to have permanently closed after more than a decade in business. The Newfield Dairy Ice Cream Parlour in Caunton Road announced on January 7, that it would be temporarily closing but a now a planning application has been submitted for the premises, which suggests the business will not reopen.

In a statement earlier this year, the family-run business said: "With heavy hearts, we're temporarily closing our doors due to a family illness. We appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging time.

"We look forward to serving you again when we reopen this spring. Thank you for being part of our ice cream family."

Customers were excitedly waiting for the parlour to reopen, as the business is popular with locals and visitors from across the county alike. However, plans now have been submitted to use the property as a house.

A statement in the application, submitted by IBA Planning Limited to Newark and Sherwood District Council, states: "Proposed residential conversion of former ice cream parlour/cafe into a single self-build dwelling and erection of detached garage/garden store."
