Chart-topping singer Gabrielle has revealed she was left bed bound for a month after she "went down with coronavirus" following a photo shoot.

The 50-year-old star recently appeared on the second series of The Masked Singer as Harlequin, being eliminated in the semi-final.

She said she suffered heavily as a result of COVID-19 over the Christmas period, to the point where her family were worried about her safety.

She told The Sun about her experience when she was asked what scares her most, citing "the thought of not being with my family" as the thing that most gets under her skin.

"I went down with coronavirus for a month after a photo shoot. I was sick and everybody was worried," she said.

"I suffer from asthma and I’m grateful I was able to pull through. The headaches were excruciating, I was bed bound, couldn’t eat and couldn’t taste.

"I didn’t have a Christmas. I had one bite of a roast potato and said: 'Take it away.'"

Perhaps unsurprisingly given her experience, Gabrielle cited "COVID deniers" when asked what makes her most angry in the world today.

The Dreams singer said she hopes "live music and reconnections" will return this year and shared a few ambitions she has for the years ahead.

"Right now, touring seems something of an enigma, but if we get through this year, I’ve got a tour that begins in November," she said.

"I’ve also never played Glastonbury. Maybe one day."

Gabrielle shot right to the top of the charts with Dreams — her first single — in 1993 and had subsequent hits with tracks including Walk On By and Out of Reach.

She took a break from the music business at the tail end of the noughties, before returning in 2013 with a new album and a UK tour to promote it.
