Game Of Thrones and Porridge star Peter Vaughan dies

British actor Peter Vaughan, best known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Porridge, has died aged 93.

The veteran star passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, according to his agent Sally Long-Innes.

A statement said: “This is to confirm that very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10.30 this morning.

“He died peacefully with his family around him.”

Peter was born April 4, 1923, in Wem, Shropshire.

His most recent part saw him portray the elderly, blind maester of the Night’s Watch Aemon Targaryen in fantasy TV series ‘Game of Thrones’. Peter played the character for five seasons until 2014, before Master Aemon was eventually killed off in season five aged 102.

He racked up numerous TV and film plaudits, including roles in ‘Citizen Smith’, ‘Brazil’, ‘Straw Dogs’ and ‘The Remains of the Day’.

Peter was renowned for playing fan favourite ‘Porridge’ character Harry ‘Grouty’ Grout alongside Ronnie Barker’s Norman Stanley Fletcher, but appeared in just three episodes of the classic comedy series as well as the 1979 film.
