Game of Thrones: my love-hate relationship with the Oathbreaker

Another week, another episode of Game of Thrones. Let’s take a look on what/who to love and what/who to hate in Westeros this time!

I loved…

  • That little group of Jon, Ser Davos and Melisandre with all the faces!

  • Sam and Gilly are back! I have to admit I almost forgot about them… Although there wasn’t much going on but still it’s nice to see some kind people and since I share Sam’s taste in music, I’m bound to be happy about them.

  • Bran’s storyline is one of the ones I look forward to the most. All the segments from the past are really interesting and we are definitely getting closer to find out the truth about Jon’s parents!

  • Okay, Tyrion, Missandei and Grey Worm together are probably the most hilarious grouping possible! And it gets even better when Varys joins them. About whom I still don’t quite know how to feel. He is smart funny and powerful - using his influence for the good - but also a bit creepy.

  • I also enjoyed the scene with the Small Council - I love good mind games and passive aggressive notes but it’s also extremely pointless. They should maybe focus on what’s going on outside of their world because that seems pretty scary. And they could still keep up with their sophisticated little war whilst working together.

  • Arya’s - or should I say No One? - story is getting more and more exciting I think. Her character is improving a lot and I’m curious of where they are going with all this.

  • And last but not least - Jon Snow walking out! Seriously it was bound to happen and I couldn’t be happier about it! Not to mention the way he did it, with a proper bang and much more authority than he used to have.

I don’t know hoe to feel about Daenerys. I like her but I feel like she can’t have an interesting storyline for a long time. There’s so much to her and I’d love to see all of that! I really liked the route she started on last season, but it’s too slow. Her scene in this episode wasn’t bad but it wasn’t really interesting either. We wouldn’t have lost a lot without it.

I hated…

  • That it’s still too slow. Things happen but there are several lines where I feel like it’s obligatory to show these characters but basically nothing is happening to them. The stories they had in 3 episodes would have fit in a single one - and that way it would be more exciting and tense and we would have time for more.

  • Was I the only one that was freaked out by that guy trying to gain influence over kids by tempting them with sweets? Okay, Varys’s done the same (finally we know who his birds are!) but he probably took care of them in the meantime - and Qyburn doesn’t seem like someone who would do the same.

  • Tommen trying to be a man is quite pathetic. I don’t know what my problem is with this boy - I liked him in season 5 - but he is just so annoying…

  • And the worst man on the show: Ramsay! I can’t believe how lucky he is - Rickon is the second betrayed Stark he managed to get his hands on. And killing Shaggydog was cruel! (I have to acknowledge Iwan Rheon’s acting skills though - he is brilliant in this role. He was Misfits’ lovely Simon for years and now he creeps me out with a single look.)
