Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 8 “No One”: Arya Vs The Waif *SPOILERS*

We’ve long learned to expect the unexpected when watching Game of Thrones but tonight’s episode didn’t quite make the cut in being that shocking or unexpected. “Finally, a girl is no one,” Jaqen said moments before the end credits rolled – but “A girl is Arya stark of Winterfell and I’m going home” she replied!

I knew Arya Stark was going to pull through her shanking by the Waif and I knew Lady Crane would be the person she’d turn to for help. Additionally, I also knew guessed that Lady Crane would die because let’s face it, people who help other people in this programme tend to pop their clogs before their time. Just like Brother Ray did in The Broken Man last week.

As Arya lay patched up in Lady Crane’s modest bedsit she was offered opium milk of the poppy to ease her pain and help her rest. But could Lady Crane be the unsung hero of Arya Vs the Waif? Arya stubbornly refused the opium milk of the poppy at first but relented when Lady Crane insisted that if she could survive her cooking, this was definitely NOT gonna kill her.

After finding Lady Crane dead by the Waif’s hand, Arya runs for her life and is reunited with her beloved blade “Needle” with which she uses to end her pursuer once and for all. To my dismay, the final showdown between Arya and the Waif is not shown and it’s not until Jaqen sees the Waif’s bloodied face in the Hall of Faces is it revealed that Arya actually beat her.

Could Arya have actually done it without Lady Crane forcing a generous dose of opium milk of the poppy down her throat the night before? I mean, every encounter she’s had with the Waif before always ended in Arya getting her ass beat.

Anyway, cheers to Lady Crane! She was a short-lived favourite of mine.

Other cool moments this episode…

Brienne of Tarth: Brienne is reunited with her beloved Jamie Lannister after quite some time apart. Having ridden to find him with Podrick, I was glad to see him treat her nice and not tear her heart out despite them being on opposing sides.

Tyrion Lannister: Tyrion forced Grey Worm and Missandei to sit down, drink wine and tell jokes. #awkward
