Emilia Clarke has dropped a major Game of Thrones spoiler, revealing that her character Daenerys Targaryen will survive to star in the final series of the fantasy show.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the British actress confirmed that she will return for “one more season” after the upcoming seventh run.

But fans hoping that she’ll be involved in any spin-off shows will be disappointed as Clarke revealed that the last season of Game of Thrones will “be it” for the mother of dragons.

“I have no doubt there'll be prequels and sequels and who knows what else,” she said.

“But I am doing one more season. And then that'll be it.”

Producers for the HBO hit series have confirmed that Game of Thrones will run for only two more series, with the upcoming run consisting of just seven episodes, which is three less than the usual ten.

The trailer for season seven hints that Daenerys will sail to Westoros to stake her claim for the Iron Throne, and Clarke seemed to confirm the rumours by saying she’d been spending more time in Belfast (where the Westeros scenes are filmed) than usual.

“Spoiler alert – I normally don't spend very much time in Belfast, but this last season I spent a little more time there,” she said.

“[It’s] a really interesting season in terms of some loose ends that have been tied, some really satisfying plot points, some things where you're like, "Oh, my God. I forgot about that!"

Game of Thrones series seven will air in the US on July 16 on HBO and in the UK on July 17 at 2am and then again at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
