Game of Thrones fans slam Trump for using show's imagery in Mueller report tweet

Furious Game of Thrones fans have slammed Donald Trump after the president used the show’s imagery in a tweet.

Fans of the HBO series have accused Mr Trump of “tarnishing” the fantasy drama’s image in a message he shared on Thursday morning.

Mr Trump’s tweet, which he posted before the release of a redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, features a photo of himself with his back to the camera, with the words “Game over” superimposed in the same font used by Game of Thrones.

Some viewers were unhappy to see the series’ imagery on the president’s Twitter timeline, such as one person who told Mr Trump: “Don’t f*****g disrespect Game of Thrones“.

“I am offended you are tarnishing the image of Game of Thrones,” someone else wrote in part.

Another person tweeted: “If there’s one thing I learned from watching Game of Thrones, it’s that you shouldn’t turn your back and assume the game is over until the end credits roll.”

Someone else compared Mr Trump to Game of Thrones‘s arrogant King Joffrey​ Baratheon, while another person lamented: “He’s trying to ruin Game of Thrones.“

The president tweeted or retweeted 12 times on Thursday morning about the investigation, proclaiming his innocence and claiming that the probe was politically motivated.

Mr Mueller investigated multiple instances of Trump attempting to curtail the special counsel probe as part of determining whether the president committed obstruction of justice.

This isn’t the first time Mr Trump has used Game of Thrones imagery in a tweet. He previously did so in November 2018 to announce sanctions against Iran.

HBO said in a statement at the time: “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes.”
