Game of Thrones finale: Phillip Schofield shares throwback to Night King transformation

Phillip Schofield has shared a series of throwbacks to his epic transformation into the Night King for his Game of Thrones-inspired Halloween costume.

Schofield dressed as the mysterious figure for a spooky This Morning special back in 2017, and marked the end of the HBO show with a series of throwback snaps and videos from his makeover.

“Guess I can post this now ... My Night King loved to recline,” Schofield joked as he showed off his full costume. “They put the back prosthetics on first,” he explained in another post.

Schofield shared a series of videos of his having his hair and make-up done to fit the incredibly detailed mask, telling fans that it took two hours to free him from his new face once the show was over.

In a series of captions, he wrote: “A forbidden Night King laugh as they take it all off. All that hard work to put on by the incredible GOT team! Took 2 hours to take it off #gameofthrones.”

Sharing a close-up of his mask and glistening blue eyes, Schofield added: “Thanks to the #gameofthrones team, this was such an amazing experience.”

Some fans joked that Schofield “could have been the Night King all along” since the shady overlord was always wearing his mask.

The real Night King was played by stuntman Vladimír Furdík, who took a central role in the final season before he was finally slain by Arya Stark.

Maisie Williams’ character plunged a steel dagger into the Undead leader during the Battle of Winterfell, emerging as the unlikely hero of the episode.

Furdík later revealed that he found the murder scenes “emotional” to film because he had become “very good friends” with Williams.

“When I have to hold her under the jaw and it looks like she dies, we had to spend a lot of energy on that particular scene, it was very, very difficult,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“We know each other. It wasn't easy for me to [pretend to] hurt her. When I grabbed her under the jaw, it wasn't easy [on a practical level]. If you make a bad move, she could have an injury. So I was under pressure and she was under pressure. It was not an easy day.”

Game of Thrones is available to watch now on Sky Go and NOW TV.
