Game of Thrones finale recap: Daenerys’ season 2 vision revealed ending of HBO show

The ending of Game of Thrones was revealed as early as season two.

*Major spoilers follow – you have been warned*

The HBO show broadcast its final ever episode following years of theorising about how the King’s Landing battle for the Iron Throne will go down.

Last week controversially saw Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) follow in her father’s footsteps to become the Mad Queen, killing thousands of innocent civilians in the process.

It was this that forced Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to kill the Dragon Queen in the finale – a twist that was hinted in a vision Dany had back in season two.

In season two’s tenth episode, titled “Valar Morghulis”, Dany entered the House of the Undying to find her stolen baby dragons. Beforehand, she had a vision of herself approaching the Iron Throne – but it wasn’t in a King’s Landing that viewers had seen before; this one was deserted, in tatters and covered in something appearing to be snow – something many believed was a hint of the Night King terrors to come.

Considering Arya killed the Night King earlier this season, fans are now convinced this moment was actually teasing Dany’s death at the hands of Jon Snow.

After all, in the vision, the snow was on the throne because the ceiling of the castle had been torn down. Sure enough, following Dany’s destructive actions in last week’s episode, the roof had burnt to the ground.
