Game of Thrones: Gwendoline Christie responds to Kit Harington telling critics to 'go f*** themselves'

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie has spoken about the backlash to the finale series of the hit HBO show, including her co-star Kit Harington’s comment about critics.

The actor was interviewed by The Times about the “emotional” final episode, where she discussed her character Ser Brienne of Tarth’s story arc.

“For that unconventional character, who never dared to hope for too much for herself, to end up with influence? It’s special,” she said. “She will bring a great practicality to politics.”

Addressing the fan criticism over her one-night-stand with Jaime Lannister, she said she was “acutely aware” that not everyone would like how the season ended.

“But when people come out of a war, as Brienne had, their behaviour changes, and a strong idea of one’s mortality causes you to expose parts of yourself you had concealed,” she suggested. “Not everyone is able to be strong all of the time, so we looked at the messiness of what it is to be human.”

Asked about Harington, who played Jon Snow in the series, and who said that critics making negative comments about the finale could “go f*** themselves”, Christie laughed and responded: “He’s funny. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion — people have been very invested.”

“I think no matter what anyone thinks about this season — and I don’t mean to sound mean about critics here — but whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgment on it, in my head they can go f*** themselves," Harington had told Esquire. "’Cause I know how much work was put into this.”"
