Game of Thrones prequel: Harry Potter and Blackadder alumni Miranda Richardson joins cast

Although fans are eagerly awaiting the eighth season of Game of Thrones, when those six episodes finish – the whole show will finish.

Luckily, HBO has already confirmed that a prequel series, set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, will soon be headed our way.

Deadline reports that Oscar and Bafta nominee Miranda Richardson, perhaps best known for her roles in the Harry Potter films and the television show Blackadder, has joined the cast.

Richardson, who can next be seen in Amazon’s Good Omens, will star alongside Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo.

Jane Goldman serves as showrunner, while George RR Martin will act as executive producer. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss are not involved with the prequel.

The eighth season of Game of Thrones starts on 14 April. Read all about the upcoming episodes here.
