The Game of Thrones spinoff prequel House of the Dragon just got a new round of casting announcement

In a promising update, HBO's chief content officer Casey Bloys said that the new show should start shooting in April 2021.

Elementary star Rhys Ifans is among the new cast for House of the Dragon. He is set to play Otto Hightower - the Hand of the King and close counsellor of King Viserys Targaryen (played by Paddy Considine). Otto is also the father of Alicent Hightower (played by Olivia Cook).

Doctors star Steve Touissant will also appear in the new series as Lord Corlys Velaryon (also referred to as The Sea Snake). A legendary seafarer in Westerosi history, Corlys comes from the Valyrian bloodline.

Nurse Jackie's Eve Best has been cast as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Lord Corlys' wife. She is a dragon rider and is often referred to as The Queen Who Never Was. This is due to missing out on the chance to take to the throne, as she lost against her cousin Viserys, who took to the throne just because he was male.

Crazy Rich Asians star Sonoya Mizuno will feature as Mysaria, who has been sold multiple times in her life, but is also Prince Daemon’s unlikely ally. Emma D'Arcy will star as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Set 300 years before the original Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon follows Daenerys' forebears as the House Targaryen begins to break apart. George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are the show's creators. Condal will serve as a co-showrunner on House of the Dragon alongside Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik.

House of the Dragon is set for release in 2022.
