Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke earn up to $500,000 (£390,000) per episode of the show, a new report by Variety has revealed.

According to the analysis, the two British actors are among the show’s top earners with only three of their co-stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, and Peter Dinklage commanding similar rates.

All five of the actors have appeared in the series since its inception, a rare feat considering the regularity at which characters are killed off.

Both Harington and Clarke rose to prominence thanks to their roles in the HBO fantasy series, which is watched by millions around the world.

However, the stars will have taken home less this series than in previous years as the current run consists of seven instalments instead of the usual 10.

Despite the huge sums, the Game of Thrones cast members aren’t the highest-earning actors per episode of a drama series.

The report also revealed that Robert De Niro receives $775,000 (£600,000) per programme on his currently untitled Amazon Prime project with David O Russell.

Meanwhile the stars of The Big Bang Theory earn even more for their roles in the CBS series, topping the comedy list with a whopping $900,000 (£700,000) for every episode.

Game of Thrones series seven, episode seven will air on Monday, August 28 at 2am and then again at 9pm on Sky Atlantic. You can also watch new episodes on Now TV
