Game of Thrones season 8 came to a controversial conclusion with some major deaths and even more surprisingly, some major characters left alive.

Since then, creator George RR Martin has given his take on the finale and HBO even responded to the backlash, which claimed the final season was too rushed.

Now, Charles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister on the show, has waded in while speaking to Good Morning Britain.

Speaking to GMB's Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway, Charles said he was "confused" about the climax, while dropping numerous spoilers. So obviously, don't read ahead if somehow you haven't seen the finale yet.

He said: "I was confused. I have watched as much as I can… I wanted to know what was happening to these characters…

"We come to the big last series, we come to the very end and I thought, 'Hmm, OK.'

"There's little Arya going off on a cruise somewhere, poor Jon's gone back up north, beyond the wall and then there is Tyrion.

"And all the people left alive are sort of sat around the table going, 'So well, what are we going to do now, shall we have a cup of tea or something?' And I thought, 'Ah, I don’t know.'

Kate Garraway said: "You wanted Tyrion to come through and be the boss, didn't you?"

Charles replied: "Me personally, yes."

When Ben Shephard commented that that would have been a "brilliant ending", Charles agreed, saying: "It would."

Meanwhile, a majority of Digital Spy readers seem to agree with Charles, as they voted the Game of Thrones finale as a disappointment overall.

Elsewhere Game of Thrones' writers have revealed one character they wanted to survive the show, and we've compiled 13 ways the books will end differently to the TV show.

Also despite "heading off on a cruise", according to HBO we won't see any swashbuckling Saga holiday action with Arya Stark in a spin-off show.

But you can head this way to read all the details on the greenlit prequel, which begins shooting soon.

Game of Thrones aired on HBO in the US, and you can also catch up on the show via Hulu. Viewers in the UK can catch up via Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
