Game of Thrones star joins Avatar 2

Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin has joined Avatar 2.

The actress, who played Robb Stark's wife Talisa on the HBO series (and of course ended up being offed in season three's tragic Red Wedding episode 'The Rains of Castamere' alongside her husband and mother-in-law), has been cast in James Cameron's forthcoming sequel.

Oona's other acting credits include roles in Black Mirror, Sherlock and Tom Hardy's Taboo, as well as the films What If? and The Longest Ride.

Deadline reports she will play a 'strong and vibrant central character' called Varang, and will also return for other sequels in the Avatar franchise.

The core cast is now starting to take shape, following the announcement that Fear the Walking Dead actor Cliff Curtis would be joining the franchise last month.

Curtis – Travis Manawa on the AMC series – has been cast as Tonowari, the leader of the Metkayina, the reef people clan.

Also returning for Avatar 2 is Joel David Moore, aka scientist Norm Spellman.

The actor, also known for his work in other films such as Dodgeball, has signed on to reprise his role in the franchise, alongside stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.

All aboard the Avatar!

Avatar 2 is due for release on December 18, 2020, with 3, 4 and 5 scheduled all the way up to 2025.
