Suspects allegedly broke victim’s vehicle window and took the money from inside, police say
Five Arab men were apprehended for attempting to steal Dh100,000 from a bank client who left his money in his vehicle before going into a shop, the Al Ain Police announced today (Sunday).
Colonel Mohammad Suhail Al Rashidi, Deputy Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate, said that the Directorate received a report from an individual stating that he had been robbed by unidentified thieves after leaving the bank.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the robbery was conducted by breaking the vehicle’s window. The Directorate immediately formed a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in order to identify the thieves and to arrest them based on the available information.
“Our investigations led to the identification of the suspects and to their subsequent arrest,” he said. “The thieves admitted to monitoring and following the victim after he had left the bank with the intention of stealing the money.” he added.
Colonel Al Rashidi explained that the suspects waited for the victim to park his vehicle in front of a store before they broke into his vehicle by smashing the windows and stealing the money. In light of the circumstances, Colonel Al Rashidi called on the public to be cautious and not to be negligent by leaving money and valuables in vulnerable places that would lead immoral persons to commit crimes.
The official said: “Keep your money out of the sight of curious eyes, transport your money carefully, and always secure your valuables in a safe place. Regrettably, some members of our community do not comply with the messages of awareness and guidance that are provided by the authorities with regard to general security. These messages are important and should not be overlooked, because these guidelines not only protect individuals but also their valuables and properties.”
