Gang of Midlothian youths cause havoc in park as fire crews race to blaze

Edinburgh fire crews raced to a Midlothian park on Saturday evening after youths reportedly set fire to an "outdoor structure".

Around 8.21pm on October 5, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were alerted of a blaze within Kings Park, Dalkeith.

It's not confirmed how many people were involved but it's understood teenagers were present.

In footage shared with Edinburgh Live, flames were spotted by a local, who wishes to stay anonymous. She described the scenes as "vile".

One fire appliance was dispatched to the scene as firefighters extinguished the blaze within a bin.

It's understood nobody was hospitalised and there were no reported casualties.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.21pm on Saturday, October 5 to reports of an outdoor structure on fire near to Eskbank Road, Dalkeith.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one bin.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
