A man has been arrested after being tracked down by a police helicopter following an aggravated burglary in Thamesmead.

A gang of ten men had forced their way into a victim’s home, armed with combat knives and what was believed to be a black revolver.

The men demanded to know where the victim’s son was.

When the group realised that his son was not at the address, they left taking an electric scooter and a bike with them.

The victim called the police at 7.42pm.

Officers searched the area and spotted a man on a bike which matched the description of the stolen cycle.

He then fled from officers into a back alley behind the houses.

The suspect was spotted by the National Police Air Service and tracked by helicopter.

He was seen climbing over a fence into a back garden on Glendale Way and discarded a plastic bag through the window of a conservatory.

Officers caught the man in the alleyway, and he was detained for a search.

The suspect was found with two phones, cash, cannabis and a balaclava.

The stolen property was recovered from the house and when police searched the discarded plastic bag they found cash, a combat knife and nine plastic pots of cannabis.

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, possession with intent to sell and possession of an offensive weapon.
