Gangs of London season 2 ending explained
Now we know that Gangs of London season 3 is due for a 2025 release, there's been no better time to binge your way through the first two seasons of the popular crime drama (or go in for a re-watch, if you've seen it already).
The Sky show recently brought in a wave of new viewers, with its bloody, dramatic (and bloody dramatic) debut seasons dropping on streaming platform Netflix.
Maybe that includes you – welcome! And if you're here to try and get a little clarification on what went down at the end of season two, then allow us to be of service.
But a word of warning that Gangs of London season two's ending spoilers follow – of course.
Elliot's vengeance sees a severed limb tossed into his trail of bullets and blood as he hunts down Sean over the death of his father.
He asked the question, "How do you turn a king into a pawn?"
In other words, how do you bring the principal gang lord to his knees?
The answer, take away everything he values, starting with his position in the streets and that's what Elliot (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù) means to do.
Despite having just clawed his way back to the top, Sean Wallace (Joe Cole) is in for a pretty rude awakening…
Gangs of London season 2 ending explained
The finale kicks off with Elliot tossing Billy's severed arm into a box ready to mail Sean and Marian (Michelle Fairley).
He has a vision of his father standing in front of him, presumably to call into question his actions. A subconscious warning to stop before things go too far. Don't worry, this crisis of morality won't hold him for long.
Next we see Billy (Brian Vernel), bound and laying on the ground, his bloody stump bleeding slowly into the plastic bag covering it. A tourniquet is the only thing preventing him from bleeding out. The scene cuts to his tattooed limb resting on the table in plain sight of Sean and Marian.
Billy's precarious predicament urges Sean to confront his mother about her part in things.
Marian reveals that not only did she double-cross Sean by stealing his drug shipment but that it is her duplicitous actions that have helped to put Billy in danger. She insists she was trying to protect them both from the alliance Sean had made with Koba but this doesn't wash with him.
In the heat of their argument, Sean strangles Marian before letting her go and telling her he wants nothing more to do with her.
Elliot is not the only one who's out for revenge. Koba (Waleed Zuaiter) means to kill Saba (Jahz Armando) for helping Elliot in his foiled assassination attempt of him and Sean.
He is moments away from completing the job himself when Sean shows up.
He has a lead on Elliot's whereabouts having just received a call from him with instructions. Koba leaves the job of murdering Saba to Hakim (Aymen Hamdouchi) but in Koba's absence a tussle breaks out and Hakim is the one who is shot and killed.
What happened to the missing drugs?
With the shipment of drugs gone, Marian turns to Luan (Orli Shuka) for help. He had wisely put a tracker in the van and is able to locate it.
The van, however, is in the possession of Shannon Dumani (Pippa Bennett-Warner). She takes it to Ed (Lucian Msamati) claiming that with it the Dumani's could take control without the need for Marian or the Wallaces. She uses her son Danny and the memory of Alex (Paapa Essiedu) to convince Ed who isn't sure.
Luan's men enter into a shootout with the Dumanis over the drugs but it is the Dumanis who are victorious.
This awards them what Shannon wanted, power, status and most importantly freedom from underneath anyone's boot heels, especially the Wallaces.
To cool tensions Ed reminds Luan that he was the one who helped him rescue his wife from Koba. This seems to cause him to back off, leaving Marian on her own.
Who kills Koba?
Koba and Sean take a little road trip to a destination of Elliot's choosing. Before arriving, Sean stops off at a cafe to pick up something a couple of burgers.
Maybe it's a bonding thing? Chow down on a couple of patties. A pre-murder snack? Or maybe Sean is up to something.
He returns to the car and they dig in. It isn't long however until Koba begins to struggle with his breathing. Blood begin to drip, first from his nose then from every visible orifice.
Sean explains that he has dosed him with a compound poison that also paralyses. Koba attempts to draw his gun but his movements are slow.
He dies gargling on blood and is tossed into the boot of the car.
Sean calls Elliot to let him know the job is complete which earns him the knowledge of the real location where he will find Billy.
What happens between Sean and Elliot?
As instructed, Sean arrives at the location, a seemingly abandoned junkyard. He drags Koba's lifeless body out, offered as proof that the deed is done.
Unarmed, he approaches Elliot who has Billy practically on a leash. Elliot orders Sean to get on his knees and he seems to have made peace with his fate, telling Billy that he loves him.
Before Elliot gets a chance to pull the trigger though, Billy stabs him with a screwdriver, the one that Billy went to great pains early on to secretly obtain from Elliot's glove compartment.
Naturally, Sean seizes the opportunity to take the advantage and a fight breaks out.
In true Gangs of London style, there are plenty of punches thrown back and forth. This all leads to Sean being strung up and left to hang to death.
Sean, with his last few gasping breaths attempts to manipulate Elliot by telling him that his father would be proud and it kind of works.
Elliot sees that same vision of his father again, a pleading look on his face urging him to do better and so he does. Just.
He places a tyre underneath Sean's feet for him to balance on and then calls the police, leaving Sean to be arrested for the death of Koba.
Who's running London now?
There is a meeting of the gangs, all the major factions are seated around a table. Elliot walks in as his last conversation with Sean can be heard over the present goings-on.
He tells Sean that killing is not enough, instead he intends to take everything Sean has strived for and claim it as his own. Elliot approaches the table and space is made for him in between the Dumanis.
The table is silenced by him sitting down, proving that he is the one in control of London now.
Marian is the last to seat the table, humbled by her defeat, she seems to comply with the new order of things…at least for now. The look that she gives Elliot suggests that the bad blood still lingers.
Is Lale dead?
In a shock twist, the final episode ends with Mr Afridi (Asif Raza) in discussion with Lale (Narges Rashidi). Both have significantly lost.
Asif Afridi has been pushed out of chief position as the head of the all London gangs, while Lale was betrayed by lover Sean and handed over to Mr Afridi to meet her death.
The two seem to have put aside their differences in order to partner. They intend to claw their way out of exile and reclaim all they have lost, which should make for an interesting season three.
