Ryan Garcia’s quest to become one of boxing’s biggest superstars continues this weekend with a significant test against Britain’s 2012 Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell.

Garcia, 22, is already a huge in the US and Mexico and is looking to follow in the footsteps of his training partner, Canelo Alvarez, by adding the first British scalp to his resume.

Campbell will provide by far the sternest inspection of Garcia’s credentials, though. The 33-year-old came up agonisingly short against Jorge Linares and went the distance with Vasyl Lomachenko last year. Furthermore, while Garcia has never been the full 12 rounds, Campbell has never been knockout out as a professional.

It will be a long road back for the Briton if he is to suffer defeat, though, and could mark the beginning of the end for one of the country’s best if all too often under-celebrated boxers.

Prediction

Garcia is explosive and carries power, but Campbell can take a shot, this fight should therefore go deep.

The Briton can box and move nicely and has nice timing, while he has been known to go the body, which should give Garcia some hesitation when loading up.

We’re opting for a close fight and Garcia to just edge this on points.

What are the fighters saying?

Garcia: "I feel bad for Luke. He's just the first one of my opponents that's going to get it bad. I'm older, stronger, and coming into myself. I already felt I was coming into myself for the Fonseca fight. I was on a roll and ready to takeover. God said how it was supposed to be. I cannot wait to punish Luke Campbell. I want to break his eye. I want to break his bones. I want to break everything off of him."
