Gardai bust fake doctor who performed illegal circumcisions on seven young males

Gardai have busted a fake doctor who performed illegal circumcisions on seven young males.

It follows a long investigation by the Sexual Crime Management Unit after they received complaints.

The revelation was made by the Garda Commissioner in his August Report to the Police Authority.

He said: "Following a lengthy and complex investigation directions were received to prosecute the defendant on one count of Endangerment, Assault Causing Harm, Deception, and falsely representing himself as a registered medical practitioner in respect of each of the seven young males amounting to twenty eight counts."

"The defendant pleaded guilty to the counts of endangerment and Section 3 assault and a nolle prosequi was entered into in respect of all other counts of the indictment."

The Commissioner said on July 8 last the offender was convicted on all seven counts of endangerment.

He was sentenced to six and a half years in jail with assault causing harm taken into consideration.
