If you are dealing with cats coming into your garden and doing the toilet, you are not alone - and there's a simple fix to stop this from happening.

Thankfully, if you already have it in your home, it's of course free. But if you don't there is no need to panic as ll you need to do is spend less than 50p and your problems should be solved.

Taking to TikTok, @viewfromthepottingbench who uploads content all about helping others in their garden, shows the simple hack - and all you need is a citrus fruit. This can be a lime, which is what he uses, and it's said to really work.

After doing some research, the gardener said he discovered cats don’t like citrus fruit and in an attempt to put off the local neighbourhood cats, and his own cat, from doing the toilet where his children play, he grated the peel of a lime onto the areas he doesn't want them to go.

He explains: "For cats, the scent is just too overpowering and strong for them and it’s said that adding citrus juice etc to areas like our bark play area, will put them off, so - I’m trying it! And…the results! So far so good!! Since adding this last week, not one poo."

He added: "I’ve had a few comments saying that citrus is poisonous to cats and while I appreciate that may be true, daffodils, peonies, tulips and lilies are also potentially toxic to cats too as are basil, thyme, and coriander (and we all grow those without even a thought) - so just worth adding some balance to the conversation there."

So the next time you're passing a shop, go and grab some citrus fruits and you should notice a difference.
