Gareth Ainsworth is keen to become the next Hearts manager.

The former Queens Park Rangers boss has applied for the vacant Tynecastle position. The 51-year-old left the English Championship outfit, where he made his name as a player, last year. Ainsworth has turned down several jobs since and has been waiting for the right opportunity. Hearts tick a lot of those boxes, especially with the added advantage of European group stage football.

It is now with the Tynecastle hierarchy to see how Ainsworth’s statistics stack up against what are their main requirements. Brighton owner Tony Bloom is in talks over a £10million investment in Hearts. They will turn to one of his analytical companies before they go to the interview process and decide who will replace Steven Naismith, who was sacked earlier this month.

Ainsworth has a wealth of experience and made his managerial name in his 11 years at Wycombe Wanderers. He led them from League Two to the English League Championship on one of the lowest budgets.

The Englishman also plays an attacking brand of football His win rate at Wycombe fluctuates from 49.69% to nearly 40% as the Chairboys fought against the odds to remain in the Championship.

He moved to Queens Park Rangers because of his connections but all was not well behind the scenes and he departed after just eight months. That is why Ainsworth has been determined to wait for the right opportunity.

Hearts are set to look far and wide for their next manager. B team boss Liam Fox has been put in temporary charge until Hearts decide on their next manager/head coach.
