It’s no secret the Take That singer has struggled with his weight over the years, having famously piled on the pounds during his time out of the spotlight, only to lose it all when he returned to the stage.

Barlow, 46, described his weight gain as a ‘horrifically unhappy’ time in his life, but has since shed the weight to become fitter and healthier.

Now, he’s planning to embark on a boot camp in the New Year, in preparation for his 2018 tour.

‘New Year is going to arrive and I’m going to start Barlow’s Boot Camp. I have from the New Year until April to get myself ship shape to come on the stage and I’m going to catalogue it,’ he told the Sun.

‘I’ve signed up some of my expert friends, who have cook books and they do yoga and fitness on Instagram, and I’ve basically rallied everyone up so I’ve recorded a series of videos.

It’s all really fun doing it and it’s possibly something I’ll keep up over time. I’m certainly not an expert in health and fitness but it is my hobby, I’m fascinated by it.’

Since returning with Take That, Barlow has remained in trim shape and admits how during his time away from the spotlight he turned to food in order to fill the void.

‘I was horrifically unhappy, I didn’t have any career at the time really. I was eating too much, I was drinking too much, I was at a bit of a lost end really. I was getting really good at making myself sick.’

The singer claimed he was eating and drinking to the extent that it could’ve become a ‘really big issue’, and that the lifestyle he was leading was a miserable one.

But now, having been through the battle of gaining and losing weight, the singer says he wants to share his struggle (and subsequent hard work) with fans.

Speaking about how he achieved his weight loss, Barlow said it was all about finding his ‘groove’ when it came to the right diet and putting in real effort.

‘Dieting in that way is very, very tough. But I eventually found my groove, which was about six years ago, and found a way of eating for me’, he revealed.

For Barlow, and anyone else looking to diet post-Christmas, it’s important to have a little Patience.

Gary Barlow kicks off his solo UK tour in mid-April, performing 33 dates across the UK and Ireland.
