Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer in agreement over Leicester City v Bristol City incident
Match of the Day pair Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have shared their thoughts on Jamie Vardy’s celebration against Bristol City.
The Leicester City striker ran the length of the pitch and towards the away supporters to celebrate after successfully converting his penalty in the 67th minute.
He had been taunted by Robins supporters throughout the match who chanted: ‘Jamie Vardy, your wife is a grass.”
Vardy endured something similar back n February when Manchester United beat the Foxes 3-0 in February, and now two former England strikers have had their say on Saturday’s actions.
“I know I’m a little bit biased, but I’m going to go with Jamie Vardy,” said Foxes fan Lineker on his The Rest is Football Podcast when picking a moment of the week.
“Did you see? He scored a penalty for Leicester, it was 1-0, top of the Championship, it’s so much fun in the Championship, I must say.
“He scored the goal, and he’s obviously getting a bit of stick from the Bristol fans, I think about his wife.
“Every game I’ve been to at Leicester he does from the opposing fans, and he ran, a little bit like remember (Emmanuel) Adebayor?
“He ran the whole length of the pitch and gave it to the Bristol City travelling supporters. Classic Jamie Vardy.”
Lineker’s Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer was in agreement. He defended Vardy for what he did, and believed that the 36-year-old was simply responding to the banter given from the Bristol City fans.
“He should be allowed to do that, I don’t think there’s any harm in that, because you get so much stick off away fans and so much abuse,” Shearer said.
“You’re getting called so many names, then why shouldn’t you be allowed to do what he did? So I say well done him, more of it”.
