Gary Lineker is said to have rejected the chance to join 'Good Morning Britain'.

The 'Match of the Day' presenter was sounded out about taking over from Piers Morgan on the ITV show, after he quit last year, but Gary wasn't keen on the "pre-dawn" wake ups.

An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "He turned it down straight away saying he’d never be able to handle the pre-dawn starts.

“He said he doesn’t get going until at least 9am so there is no way he’d be firing on all cylinders before breakfast. He said it’s just not for him."

In September, Gary admitted he didn't fancy taking on the role because he "doesn't function before nine o'clock".

He said: "I don’t function before nine o’clock, I had to have three coffees just to speak to you. No, no, no thank you."

The former pro footballer - who played for Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur among other clubs - took to social media this week to reveal he has taken in a rescue dog.

He has named the pooch Filbert, after Leicester's former stadium, Filbert Street.

Gary wrote: "Meet Filbert, the new and already much loved member of the Lineker family. He’s a rescue from the streets of LA.

"Met him through his foster parent and friend Reggie, @r_breakspear on a recent holiday, and it was love at first sight. I’ve been dogless for far too long. (sic)"

Gary previous admitted he is keen to live a "less complicated life".

He told BANG Showbiz at the time: “Lockdown made me realise that life before it was becoming increasingly busy, with lots of work and social commitments but no time for myself.

"Naturally as you get a bit older you want to live a less complicated life. I keep things simple by having a clear routine that I stick to, with time carved out for me.

"I like finding little life hacks, or anything that helps cut down the time it takes to do things, and I no longer agree to things I don't want to.

"I don't want faff, I want straightforward and to the point. Varifocals are the are a great example of that, why would I have two pairs of glasses if I can have one that enables me to do multiple things."
