Gary Neville couldn't hide his delight after seeing Liverpool lose their first game of the season. This came just hours after rivals and former club Manchester United secured a 3-0 win over Southampton.

For the co-owner of Salford City FC, the joy was doubled as he saw his Ammies clinch a 2-1 victory against Cheltenham in their League Two meeting. The win for United propelled them into the top half of the Premier League table, having lost to Liverpool before the international break.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot experienced his first taste of defeat as Callum Hudson-Odoi's long-distance strike sealed victory for Nottingham Forest. The result narrows the gap between United and Liverpool to just three points, despite their contrasting starts to this campaign.

Meanwhile, Salford's win pulls them closer to the play-off spots in League Two, with only two points the distance. A triumphant Neville took to his Instagram to serve up a little jibe towards Liverpool fans, gloating over the weekend results.

On his Instagram story, Neville said: "Well... what a football weekend. United win, Salford win and the big one Liverpool lose! Oh dear beautiful weekend."

Speaking after full-time, Slot expressed his disappointment with the defeat to Forest. He said: "The result frustrates the most and we cannot be happy about how the game went. It was a stop-start game and we hardly created any chances.

"We only have to look at ourselves, we have to be better. Far too many times we lost the ball around the area, it was not good enough. We have to be better with the ball.

"Our decisions and execution weren't good enough. In general we defended quite well but the two fast players came on and made it difficult. We took a lot of risks and in the end it was a very good goal." Liverpool travel to Italy on Tuesday for a Champions League clash with AC Milan.
