Reds all over the globe will be revelling in today's Premier League action as Liverpool now top the table. However, it would be fair to say former Manchester United captain Gary Neville wasn't best pleased watching the action unfold.

Manchester City's draw at St. James' Park in Saturday's early kick-off set the precedent for their rivals to take advantage - which perhaps may be a story for the season with Rodri injured for the long run. Arsenal snatched victory at the death against Leicester City to draw level on points with Chelsea hot on their heels.

Now all that remained was for Liverpool to complete their side of the bargain and come away from Wolves with maximum rewards. The hosts may have found an unlikely equaliser in the second half, though Mohamed Salah remained composed from the penalty spot before the end and ensure a 2-1 victory.

That goal came almost immediately after Wolves', in the 61st minute of the game, leaving almost half an hour for a response were Gary O'Neil's side capable. As it turned out they weren't - a fact that drove Neville increasingly frustrated as he spoke on commentary duty for Sky Sports.

"They are passing it back to the goalkeeper and it drives me crazy. Absolutely drives me crazy," He ranted, picking apart the hosts' apparent lack of attacking intensity when trailing.

"This is exactly what I am talking about. You need a goal. Do they know? Just stop it. Honestly. It is so frustrating, I can't watch this because you can't kid football fans. They know exactly what is going on here, you have got to have another idea to try and do something different."

Drawing on criticism of top-flight teams attempting to emulate the possession-based football that has served Man City so well under Pep Guardiola, he continued: "I am not talking about wellying it long, to win second balls. We always blame it on Pep but Pep's teams can do it so I have no problem with Pep Guardiola's teams and the way he plays.

"One of the greatest coaches of all time, we are now watching teams on the lower end of the table playing six passes between the centre back and goalkeeper needing a goal with four minutes to go and I can't accept that. It is not just a criticism of Wolves, there are plenty of teams doing it. It has got to stop.

"I have no problem with them trying to play out of the back but there's got to be some point in the game where we say 'we are struggling to have some sort of impact on the game and we need a goal' and need to try and create some sort of pressure.

"Get the atmosphere and the ground going, look at these fans, there's Wolves fans in the stadium, 20-odd thousand of them and they are waiting for something. We have got the camera on Gary O'Neil but I am looking a the players themselves, they must realise they need to put some urgency into the game.

He further drew attention to this in a quantitative form, in the 89th minute highlighting how substitute centre forward Hwang Hee-Chan had only touched the ball once in the 21 minutes since coming onto the field.

Full of rage watching the table-topping Reds, he groaned: "But the centre backs in that time have had about 400."
