Gary Neville explains why Manchester United WON’T appeal Casemiro’s red card against Crystal Palace

Gary Neville believes there is little chance Manchester United will appeal the red card Casemiro received against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian was given his marching orders for putting his hands around Will Hughes’ neck during a melee as United beat Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.

As a result, the 30-year-old will miss United’s double-header with rivals Leeds this week, as well as the visit of Leicester later this month.

Casemiro, however, will be available for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on February 26, were the club not to lose any appeal.

In some circumstances, the FA can deem an appeal ‘frivolous’ and extend a three-game ban to four. Were that to be the case with Casemiro, the former Real Madrid midfielder would then miss the trip to Wembley.

Erik ten Hag is already missing Christian Eriksen for the foreseeable future after the Dane suffered an ankle injury and Neville believes the club simply will not risk Casemiro’s availability.

“He’ll never get off. It’s too big of a risk,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“They could risk another game and they could increase it so they won’t appeal it. I think they’ll feel they can get through the three games.”
