Gary Tweddle: Mother Describes Desperate Search

The mother of a British man who disappeared in Australia's Blue Mountains last month has spoken of her heartbreaking search for her missing son.

Gary Tweddle went missing in bushland on July 16 while at a work conference at Fairmont resort in Leura, New South Wales.

The 23-year-old, who lived in Sydney but was brought up in Britain, had called a friend shortly after midnight to say that he was lost.

But despite extensive searches with the SES, emergency services and police, he has not been found.

His mother, Carol Streatfield, described taking part in the exhaustive search for her missing son.

She said: "On July 16th 2013 my son Gary Tweddle went for a walk and has not come home.

"The day that I received the phone call to say Gary was missing in the bush was from his partner Anika.

"This phone call began the most heart breaking journey of my life.

"I thought at the beginning I would simply walk in and bring Gary out, I was so wrong."

Mrs Streatfield said she had refused to give up hope that he will be found.

She said: "The police, SES and emergency services have all been amazing and unrelenting in the quest to find Gary.

"The gratitude that I, Clive and all our family feel towards these services is overwhelming and I know in my heart that they will not give up on Gary."

Gary Tweddle was due to give his mother away at her wedding to long-time partner Clive on August 3.

She took the decision to go ahead with the ceremony because he had insisted they got married after 15 years together.

Mrs Streatfield added: "Gary was to give me away that morning and this decision was difficult to come to, however made easy by the fact that Gary was adamant that after 15 years we tie the knot.

"Gary was the most positive person I know, today he would say to me 'just get on with it mother' and so I will.

"I remain as positive as ever as Gary would want me to. I just want my beautiful boy back.

"There is always love and hope and it is these two things that I will hold on to...always."

A Facebook page has been set up in the search for Gary.
