EastEnders actor Gary Webster has revealed his mother has died after contracting coronavirus.

The 56-year-old Minder star lost his mother to the disease shortly after he and his son also tested positive.

Webster tweeted: “Thank so much to everyone for such beautiful support to my son & I as we recover from Covid.

“Last Sunday my Mum also contracted the virus. 3 generations in a week. I am devastated to say my Mum didn't make it & passed peacefully in her sleep last Thursday. She was much loved.”

The Family Affairs star – who has also appeared in Hollyoaks, Crossroads and The Bill – revealed just a few days earlier that he was self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

He posted on 8 January: “To all my friends & followers please don’t think I'm ignoring anyone recently. It's been a very sad & tough week part of which was my eldest son testing Covid positive on Tuesday & me testing positive yesterday. So strictly isolating. Please #WearMasks #SocialDistance.”

Webster first appeared in EastEnders in 1987 as bad boy Nick Cotton’s school friend Graham Clark.

He went on to replace Dennis Waterman as George Cole's on-screen partner in crime drama Minder.

In 2016 he returned to Albert Square as estate agent Neville Peacock who had a run-in with Danny Dyer’s Mick Carter.
