Gas Plant Fire Prompts Evacuations in Northern Oklahoma

A “major fire” broke out at a gas plant south of Medford, Oklahoma, on Saturday, July 9, prompting evacuation orders for areas within two miles of the plant.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the blaze erupted at a plant operated by ONEOK, located on Highway 81 and the highway was closed to traffic as emergency crews responded.

Residents south of Highway 11 in Medford were told to leave their homes and go to nearby facilities including Medford High School, Wakita fire station, or other shelters in the towns of Blackwell, Wakita, or Pond Creek.
