A Sunday roast can be hard to perfect with the many timings to keep on top of, especially when cooking for a large number of people, making it difficult for even well trained chefs to execute. Recently we asked our readers to nominate their favourite place to get a Sunday roast and one pub in particular came out on top.

Found in the village of Coton, a short bus ride away from Cambridge City Centre, The Plough has been owned by cousins Pasquale and Pasquale Benedetto since 2015. With the younger of the two leaving the pub behind, Mr Benedetto, 54, decided to return to working at The Plough in August of this year, bringing with him, Head Chef Micky Addy, who he used to work with at The Old Crown in Girton.

The pub has been recognised by Estrella Damm and The Times as one of the best gastropubs in the UK in 2022, which Mr Benedetto believes is thanks to "good food, good service, and trying to create a good atmosphere that people will keep coming back for".

Mr Benedetto shared why he thinks the pub's Sunday roast was crowned in the best in the county. He said: "We've put a little twist on our roast from when I took over. We are doing more of a family sharing Sunday roast. On your plate, you receive your meat, Yorkshire pudding, a bit of gravy, and a bit of mashed potato, but the vegetables come in a big bowl to create a family sharing environment."

When asked about the best part of The Plough's roast, Mr Benedetto said: "Probably the meat. We work with sirloin of beef, you are not going to get much better than that on a Sunday roast. It's nice and tender. The quality of the meat is the most important thing, as well as good gravy and of course, Yorkshire puddings."

Aside from their roasts, the gastropub also has a range of other dishes to suit any individual's dietary needs and preferences. Mr Benedetto said: "We have daily specials that change frequently. We have a nice handful of gluten-free and vegetarian options."

The Plough also recently introduced a two and three-course set lunch after increased demand from their regular customers. Mr Benedetto said the changes to The Plough are just "a few different little tweaks" to a pub that is already loved by locals.
