A drug dealer caught with drugs and dirty cash worth more than £100,000 has walked free from court.

Police executed a search warrant at Alan Gray's home in Humber Gardens, Gateshead, on February 3 2022 and found 20.9 kilos of cannabis in bags and boxes, worth up to £90,000. They also seized more than £27,000 of cash.

A hand-written list was also seized showing Gray was keeping track of deals he had made. Police also found he had sent out blanket messages on Snapchat and Instagram advertising drugs for sale.

Newcastle Crown Court heard messages also showed Alex Fletcher was also involved in the supply of cannabis. Gray and Fletcher both pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis and Gray also admitted possessing criminal property - the cash - and possessing 2.69g of cocaine.

Tony Davis, for Gray, said he started dealing drugs to fund his own addiction. He added that he has no previous convictions and is "willing to engage".

Tony Cornberg, for Fletcher, said he has obtained employment and taken steps to deal with his addiction.

Gray was sentenced to 13 months suspended for 18 months with a nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement and a mental health treatment requirement. Fletcher got 23 weeks suspended for 18 months and must do 200 hours unpaid work.
