Gateshead mum hit man on head with glass bottle during argument in Newcastle city centre pub
A mother hit a man on the head with a glass bottle during an argument in a busy city centre pub.
Gemma Elliot was on night out with a friend when she came across the victim inside the Rose and Crown, in Newcastle. The pair didn't know each other but a disagreement flared between them, a court heard.
Elliot then walked away from the man but turned and thew a glass bottle towards him, which struck him on top of the head. Fortunately, the bottle didn't smash and the victim only suffered minor injuries, magistrates were told.

Elliot, 39, of Buchanan Green, in Dunston, Gateshead, left the pub but was tracked by officers to the nearby Mayfair bar, where she was spoken to. She later attended the police voluntarily before being charged with assault.
The mum pleaded guilty to the offence when she appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court. Prosecutor, Glenda Beck, said the victim was drinking in the Rose and Crown at around 9pm on May 11 when Elliot entered with a friend.
Mrs Beck continued: "There was a verbal argument between the defendant and [the victim] and it results in the defendant turning and throwing a glass bottle in the direction of [the victim]. It did hit him on the head but only minor injuries were caused and not causing any breakage of the skin.
"She was identified by cameras and followed her next location, The Mayfair, where officers took her details. She attended the police station voluntarily and admitted the offence."
The court heard that, during interview, Elliot claimed that the victim had been "giving her dirty looks" and "I thought he had a problem with me". Gregg Stephens, defending, said Elliot had no past convictions.
He added: "She would not have done this for no reason at all. They were in the Rose and Crown talking to a group of lads. This man was making lewd comments and she'd had enough and threw the bottle. She did it on the spur of the moment and she shouldn't have done it.
"She accepts that it could have had worse consequences." Magistrates ordered Elliot to pay the victim £100 compensation and £85 costs.
