Gateshead pub wins 'Best Pie in the UK' title at national awards months after opening
A Gateshead pub, which re-opened with a new name just a few months ago, has already won its first award, wit it taking home the Best Pie in the UK title at this year's PETA Vegan Food Awards.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Foundation is a UK-based charity dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals and every year they seek to honour those businesses who are delivering the goods when it comes to vegan offerings..
And this year's winners list, as well as featuring legendary London company Fortnum & Mason, includes The Fog on the Tyne, the Gateshead pub formerly known as The Schooner, which opened its doors with a new look, as well as new name in July.

The Fog on the Tyne took home the accolade for its succulent vegan steak and ale pie served up with crushed potatoes, peas, and gravy.
Produced in Northumberland by plant-based pie crafters Magpye, the pies feature plant-based steak in a rich stout and onion gravy nestled within handmade shortcrust pastry and crowned with cracked black pepper. As well as being a favourite on The Fog on the Tyne menu, the pie can also be ordered directly from Magpye’s website.
Other winners in this year's PETA awards included Other winners include Fortnum & Mason for its 'Free From' St James Christmas Pudding (Best Christmas Pudding) and M&S Cafe, who took home the Best Sandwich title for its Very Veggie Toastie.
