'Gateway to Dartmoor' hotel and restaurant up for sale
A hotel and restaurant at the 'gateway to Dartmoor' has been put on the market five years after it was last sold. Its asking price has more than doubled in that time.
The freehold to Furzeleigh Mill, which is located just off the A38 near Buckfastleigh, is being marketed for £1.195million. The hotel has been run by Geoff and Tessa Sellick since they bought it in 2019, when it had a freehold asking price of £595,000.
Ware Commercial estate agents say the couple has overseen a series of refurbishments to the site, including transforming an outbuilding into a gallery, which stocks a range of items created by co-owner Geoff. Last year, the owners unveiled another new feature to the business, having converted a horsebox into a cocktail and gin bar in the hotel's courtyard.

The sale includes the bar, restaurant and kitchens, 10 en-suite letting rooms of varying sizes, a two-bedroom owners' duplex with an enclosed garden, the art gallery, the horsebox and the car park which can accommodate 20 to 22 vehicles.
The site was once home to a spring fed corn mill, starting in 1547 and it wasn't until around 100 years ago that it became a hotel. Prior to Tessa and Geoff taking it on, it was operated by Bob and Ann Sandford for 32 years until they stepped back to retire.
On the hotel's website, it says that Tessa and Geoff run the business with the help of at least two of their children. They say: "We are so proud of what we have to offer here at Furzeleigh Mill. Situated on its own grounds with a sunny south-facing aspect on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park bordering the South Hams, Furzeleigh Mill offers an informal homely atmosphere combined with great food and great service. The hotel is personally run by a family team including Tessa, Geoff, and at a minimum two of our many children."
