Gavin Rossdale has revealed that he and his ex-wife Gwen Stefani had 'so much counselling' before their decision to divorce.

The couple were married for 13 years before calling it quits in 2015 and later divorcing in April 2016.

Speaking on Loose Women yesterday (September 20), Gavin revealed the couple tried for two years previous to make their marriage work through the help of a counsellor.

"We had so much counselling," he said. "So much counselling, I could be a counsellor!

"I tried, I tried hard, but that's the way it goes. But when you look at it, in a weird way, there are no accidents.

"Life works out how it should and I made sure I did everything I could so that if I was sat here two years on, I know I tried everything I could as opposed to being steadfast or arrogant or assuming I didn't need help or we didn't need help. I kind of embraced the help."

Gwen and Gavin have three kids together, Kingston, 11, Zuma, 9, and Apollo, 3.

However, while Gwen's new boyfriend Blake Shelton has met their children, Gavin has yet to introduce his new girlfriend, German model Sophia Thomalla to his family in person, instead introducing her over FaceTime.

Asked whether Sophia would have to meet Gwen before being introduced to their kids, Gavin replied: "It hasn't worked the other way round, so I don't see why!"

Loose Women continues weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
