Gavin and Stacey cast wrap up final filming for eagerly awaited Christmas special

The stars of Gavin And Stacey have wrapped up what's slated to be the iconic show's final day of shooting in Barry, marking a bittersweet moment for the hit series' Christmas special.

Eager fans thronged the home street of Stacey Shipman, played by Joanna Page, overjoyed for a chance to see their beloved characters one last time, as filming took place in the Vale of Glamorgan locale.

Ruth Jones and Joanna Page, portraying Vanessa "Nessa" Jenkins and Stacey Shipman respectively, shared a cheerful wave with the crowd from Trinity Street. Jones was clad in black, while Page was spotted sporting a blue denim jacket complemented by blue jeans and a vibrant red-white top.

This joyful commotion follows sightings of James Corden alongside Page and Jones, mingling with Barry residents earlier in the month.

Its expected that the crew will venture to new filming locations to put the finishing touches on the much-anticipated episode.

Having first captured audiences from 2007 to 2010 over three seasons, Gavin And Stacey made a stirring return in 2019 with a festive special that left fans hanging as Nessa portrayed by Jones popped the question to Neil Smithy Smith, a character brought to life by Corden.

James Corden, 46, stirred excitement among fans when he proclaimed the show's 2024 comeback via Instagram on May 3, sharing a snapshot featuring him and Jones with a script highlighted as Gavin And Stacey: The Finale.

In the celebrated sitcom, the love story between Mathew Hornes Gavin and Pages Stacey is at the heart, Larry Lamb plays Gavin's dad Mick, Melanie Walters depicts Stacey's bereaved mum Gwen, and Rob Brydon shines as Uncle Bryn.

The 2019 Christmas episode of Gavin And Stacey raked in the highest overnight Christmas ratings in 12 years, pulling in an average audience of 11.6 million viewers, marking it as the biggest festive special since Christmas Day 2008.

By the time the new year rolled around, the episode had been viewed by a whopping 17.1 million people, making it the most-watched scripted programme of the decade at that point.

The show's success didn't stop there, as it went on to bag the impact award at the National Television Awards in 2020.

Fans can look forward to the festive final episode of Gavin And Stacey, which will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on December 25.
