Gavin and Stacey Christmas special: stars reunite as filming begins

James Corden led a Gavin and Stacey reunion over the weekend as filming began for its hotly-anticipated Christmas special.

Stars from the hit British sitcom took to the streets of Barry, Wales, to shoot the episode which will air on Christmas Day.

Photos from the happy occasion show comedian Rob Brydon embracing his co-star Corden, while Joanna Page donned a fluffy red Santa hat.

Ruth Jones could be seen in a wine-coloured top and her trademark bob, as she strolled outside terraced houses dripping with Christmas decorations – an odd sight in mid-summer which delighted excited onlookers.

The Bafta-winning show created by Corden and Jones ended almost 10 years ago after three series and a festive special.

But actor-turned-TV-host Corden thrilled fans in May when he announced there would be a “festive treat” at the end of the year.

Ruth Jones and I have been keeping this secret for a while,” Corden wrote on Twitter at the time.

“We’re excited to share it with you. See you on Christmas Day @BBCOne #GavinandStacey.”

The breakthrough BBC Three hit – which started in 2007 – centred on Essex boy Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Welsh girl Stacey (Joanna Page) who fell in love and married, exploring the impact of that relationship on their friends and family.
